The Five People You Meet in Heaven
By Mitch Albom

Wow! The examinations are finally over and while some of my friends’ own way of relaxing is going to the mall and watch movies, me, I’m right now at the comfort of my home. *Sigh* At last, no more memorizing huge number of scientific names, no more memorizing of formulas…well, I’m ready to face the next half of this semester. Enough of those school-related topics and let me update you with what’s going on with my life right now.

Like what I’ve said, while everybody’s at the mall, me, I’m relaxing in a very relaxing way…hihi! I’ve just started reading (yeah, right after the exams while riding in the car), the book The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom. Yup! The same person who authored Tuesdays with Morrie (which I also love, thanks Ava for influencing me). I’m planning to finish this today and I’ll buy a new book (maybe a book of Dan Brown or the Shophalic series). Then tomorrow will be a “movie marathon” day. Actually, while reading the book I’m watching The Princess Diaries 2 Royal Engagement (oh…how I love to be a princess…*sigh*). It’s my talent anyway…reading/studying while watching television…hah! After that, I’m planning to watch again Fahrenheit 9/11 by Michael Moore…it’s a documentary film about George W. Bush, the US, the war, terrorism and controversies behind the terrorism attack last September 11 in New York. If only our DVD player could talk, it could have been complaining right now…

=====

I am still on page 100 of the book The Five People…and yet it touches me. Such a good read…you’ll realize a lot from here…really…because I did. I just did. A lot of people feel that they are useless and not loved (just like me…) but you never know. And oftentimes, a lot of people I know, afraid to die. Me? NO. I’ve been very open about it (ask my friends and those people who are close to me) that I’m not afraid to die. Why should I? Maybe, those people who are afraid to die aren’t ready. Those are the people who haven’t touched any lives. Those are the people who aren’t contented with what they have and maybe those are the people who forgot the true meaning of life. People, I would gladly recommend you this book. It may change your views in life. It may change your treatment to other people. And if ever you didn’t like it, it’s okay…we have different eyes. What looks good for me may not look good at you…but still, read on!

=====

My love for books started when I was in high school. Because of the Harry Potter thingy I started saving money for books. I can still remember that I spent a thousand with just a snap of the finger. What did I buy? Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix…that was the most expensive book I bought (of course my own money and excluding my textbooks which are more expensive). What benefits I gain from reading? Ask my fellow bookworms…a lot of benefits dude. It’ll widen your imagination (making you smarter). It’ll open your eyes to social issues making you sensitive to the feelings and needs of your fellow human beings (of course don’t just read pocketbooks from bangketas worth P10…read those sensible books). It’ll also help you to express yourself freely. And best of all, you’ll learn valuable lessons and it’ll help you cope with life...

Angels & Demons

I'm gonna share to you an article from Paula Peralejo's site. This one is so hilarious yet true...very true... Of course, I'd like to thank Paula for giving me the permission. Thank you. So here it is...with my own comments...hihi!ONLI IN DA PILIPINS PART I:

Philippine Culture as observed by the blogger.

When you complain about bad service, inefficiency and/or rudeness, you're called a bitch.- yeah...very true...kaw pa mali...

When you compare America for example, to the Philippines and how it's more often than not better there, you're called a person with colonial mentality.- it has always been like that...

When you claim that you know Sarah Geronimo, you're called jologs. When you say you don't know John Travolta, you're called stupid. - I know Sarah Geronimo, does it mean I'm jologs?! hahaha! Filipinos are really confusing. When you don't support the Philippines, it means you're not proud to be a Filipino...but there, when you're supporting a Filipino artists or even products, you're jologs...agh...

When someone joins a contest, the person with the most tragic story will most likely win.- Yeah, Filipinos tend to be emotional...but our country won't progress if lahat ng pinpaairal natin is awa even if there's another person who is more deserving to win than that person with award-winning story. This also goes to politics...

When you ask the waiter what's the specialty of the restaurant, he will most likely answer, "lahat po.".

 - malamang baka d mabili yung iba...hihihi!

You can find home service massage cheaper than spa prices. [which is very good]

 - very true...I wonder why...

People actually pronounce words that start with S with IS. [eg: ISMAYL]

 - haha! the fact that Philippines is one of the top 5 english speaking countries... Filipinos have also this tendency to pronounce "v" as "b" and "p" to "f" (vice versa)...

You will encounter atleast one of the four situations when watching in a movie house: a baby crying, a loud text message as if the cellphone craze is new, a person answering a call saying "Nasa sinehan ako"., or someone telling the person he/she's with what's going to happen next-in a voice loud enough for the whole room to hear.

 - haha! there's no escape with that...you'll encounter those anywhere even in first class movie houses..

Crab Mentality is very rampant.- tsk...tsk...sad to say, but it's very true... that's why this country is a rut...if only Filipinos will stop being selfish then everythings gonna be okay... This gonna be harsh but Filipinos are always not contented with what they have. They always blame the government for their status in life. If only I can tell them that "Ei, your life is not in the hands of the government. If you want to change your status in life you should work for it. How would you acomplish that if instead of getting to work all you do is shouting in the streets with those red flags?!" I mean...agh... Filipinos are not stupid...we're making ourselves stupid...

The country is called poor yet there are malls, bars and restaurants everywhere, and almost everyone owns a cellular phone.

 - very well said... One time, when my dad and I we're in the car, and we're talking about these things...Only in the Philippines you'll find a basurero with a celphone (and take note I was shocked back then when I saw that his celphone model is more advanced than mine)...Only in the Philippines people will make utang just to buy a celphone (or worst pang-load). My dad even said (this gonna be harsh too) that kung sino pa ang hindi well-off, yun pa yung nagttrying hard to be one... yung nagsshow-off...well, it's true...but not all the time. I admire my lolo, even though he had a position in the government, he doesn't even look like one. His bodyguards even looked more like a politician than him...hehe!

When a pretty woman passes by, there will always be an insecure person who'll try to analyze the life of that woman-and how miserable she must be.

- uh-oh...hahaha!

When you are a public personality [note: celebrities, athletes, etc] and you decide to run for politics, you will most likely get the position you're running for.- but of course...they're popular...haay Filipinos...pano pag si Mahal tumakbo?!

When you're Filipino, you're believed to be hospitable. For crying out loud, being friends with your neighbors here isn't even practiced much.

 - hihi! Tinamaan ako...

When buses and trucks are in bad condition [which cause so much pollution], they can still be driven-without being reported. Same goes to the taxi drivers who ask for a higher fare when the routes they'll be taking have heavy traffic-which means almost everywhere in Manila.

 - agh! One time, sumakay kami ni Andrey sa taxi, d kami sinuklian?! tsk...We should have got his plate number but anyway...mas kelangan naman nila yun and Christmas naman...

Being passive is highly respected. Ugh!

 - yeah! tsk...

Chocolate is pronounced as tso-ko-leyt.

 - hihi! tama!

You cannot go out without spending--for parking, for tip, for anything. Sad, isn't it?

 - oo nga noh?! even sa ust, students should pay for the two-story parking...and it costs P20 per hour!

You have the highest chance of being discovered [as a model/celeb] by going to the mall.

 - yup! kaya kung gusto mong maging model mag-mall ka na!

Singers of novelty songs actually receive platinum awards.

 - sikat...hehe! even bastos na yung iba benta pa rin sa mga kids... I'm wondering, do these artrists especially those Hot Babes, Sexbombs and a lot more have this sticker in front of their album "Parental Guidance: Explicit content?" Like the albums of hip hop people in states...Coz you know, parents should be aware of the lyrics of the songs.

The MMDA's children-like paintings of circles, triangles and all the basic shapes are called artworks.

- I remember nung kami ni Ava pag sabay kami umuuwi dati...haha! MMDA Art... "Art na yan sa lagay na yan?!" sabay tawa...

People actually go to wakes to 1) drink and get drunk 2) get free food 3) play cards in hopes of coming home with more money. How sad.

 - can I add? to make usyoso...

Celebrities do everything-from singing to dancing to acting to hosting. Even if they're good at none.

 - another one, even if they look like they're characters in perya..go parin...

Nightlife is very much european-like.

 - di ba European nightlife is more laid-back? Oh well, anyway...

You'll bump into 13-year-old kids in bars--drinking, worse, taking drugs. Yes, that young.

 - sad to say...even having sex...tsk...a 13-year old kid having a baby in her womb? terrible...

When there are tragedies such as typhoons and earthquakes, you'll even find the victims smiling and waving at the cameras [as seen on television]. You'll even see these people swimming as if their place is one big, pool. [well yeah, it is.]

 - haha! funny...yeah...very true... Like they don't have any worries at all...

Brains without connection is useless.

- tsk...terrible...only in the Philippines...

Movies always have love stories. If ever a true story is produced, trust me, it's about a  massacre/rape.

 - plus a scene where all the characters in the story are either on the beach or having a picnic and they're dancing while singing to death...

People say "open/close the lights." instead of "turn on/turn off the lights."

so glad, wala na akong naeencounter na ganyan...

We're the only country that has signs "Bawal umihi dito.", yet people still do. Worse, we're the only country with the sign, "Bawal tumae dito." in public places. God, Filipinos actually take a shit even in open spaces?

- very true! "Hoy! Aso ka ba? Bawal umihi dito! Multa P500" something like that...nakakahiya...

I'd like to greet Andrey a very happy happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hApPy BiRtHdAy!!!! Love you! mwah!

Merry merry merry Christmas to all! Hope you're all happy today...let's all remember that happiness doesn't mean a lot of gifts or a lot of Pamaskos...that's why for me, everyday can be Christmas day and Christmas won't be complete without telling your loved ones how special they are and without sharing your blessings to the less fortunates with all your heart. I've made two kids from Baseco Compound happy and that happiness I felt when they hugged me can't be replaced. I'd like you to experience the same happiness...You are all lucky...we are all lucky...We can also be a Santa to each and every one. That's the true meaning of Christmas...not the gifts under your Christmas Tree, not the money that your ninongs and ninangs will give you, not the malls and bars. I'd like to share to you a Christmas song that whenever I hear it, it always makes me teary-eyed. Here is my Grown-Up Christmas List...

Do you remember me?
I sat upon your knee
I wrote to you with childhood fantasies
Well I'm all grown up now
Can you still help somehow?
I'm not a child but my heart still can dream

So here's my lifelong wish
My grown up Christmas List
Not for myself
But for a world in need

No more lives torn apart
That wars will never start
And time will heal our hearts
Every man will have a friend
That right will always win
And love will never end
This is my grown up Christmas List

May kindness rules our lives
Not just the strong survive
Sweet tears for all the thousand years on mind
This is the world I pray
We will all share some way
Help me begin by reaching out my hand

No more lives torn apart
That wars will never start
And time will heal our hearts
Every man will have a friend
That right will always win
And love will never end
This is my grown up Christmas List

Why does this illusion call the innocence of you?
Maybe when the time believe we can find the truth
No...

No more lives torn apart
That wars will never start
And time will heal our hearts
Every man will have a friend
That right will always win
And love will never end
This is my grown up Christmas List

This is the prayer that I will keep
This is my grown up Christmas list
Christmas list

Christmas is coming! hohoho! four days to go before Christmas and three days to go before Andrey's 20th birthday! I'm stressing the "20th" because he keeps on saying that he's young pa....eeew! haha! joke lang po!

===

Speaking of Andrey, he bought me a new phone yesterday...It's the Motorola V525...ganda...ako wala akong gift sa kanya...hehe! thank you! I love you po!

And this is the digi cam my dad bought me just a month ago...

I'm such a gadget addict...

and I'm looking forward to own this...

and this...

===

Last Sunday, we went to the mall and we went shopping the whole day! Sakit sa paa...the fact na I feel gusgusin pa because from Gawad Kalinga and Baseco (we held a Christmas party for the kids there) we went straight to the mall...haha! sarap! bili dito....bili doon...I wasn't able to buy gifts for my friends though because I'm broke...hehe! There were a lot of people in the mall...I'm wondering...they said Filipinos are poor...but there are alot of malls in the Philippines. A lot of clubs and bars, a lot of cars (which is the main cause of traffic by the way...) and if ever you don't own a celphone, you're a loser... kinda confusing right?

===

Yesterday, Andrey and I went to the mall to buy phones for ourselves... I bought a Motorola V525 and he got a Samsung D410... then we were supposed to have our lunch at Ta Yann but unfortunately it's full so we look for other restos but we end up having our lunch at Popeye's. hehe! Coz I was so hungry that time na and it's already 1 in the afternoon. He accompanied me looking for gifts for mom and dad. I bought mom a very nice blanket and for dad, he'll gonna have a pen holder for his office which has a cute Rizal monument in it.

===

I was bloghopping last Saturday I think, as far as I can remember...and I visited Paula Peralejo's, Luis Manzano's, Ala Paredes', Bianca Gonzales', Maxene Magalona's and Sarah Christophers' blogs. I love Bianca's, Ala's and Paula's blogs the most. They're not just plain journals of their everyday lives but they know how to express their views on some issues...It's great actually...I enjoyed reading Ala's article about commercials and why she hate it when commercials tend to show to the people that black is ugly and curly-haired people sucks...Paula's article Onli in Da Philippines amused me.It's so funny but it sticks to the reality. Two thumbs up for these talented people...they've got beauty and brains. Also, I'd like to recommend Tiepee's site. She's not a celebrity though but she was featured in Candymag because of her humorous site. Her site is too cool to be true.  And, of course, visit Frendi's site. Her site is not boring...it's cool...she got another one from tabulas. Visit niyo din site ni Ava for all the Harry Potter fans out there for the latest HP buzz and Rachelle's got a blog, too.
